When Pinocchio made its full-length balletic world premiere with The National Ballet of Canada at the Four Seasons Centre of Performing Arts, we gathered interest among our followers, and between ballet-lovers, theatre-aficionados and Pinocchio's all-ages fans, we put together an interesting group of students and friends who were completely blown away by British choreographer, dancer and director Will Tuckett, who masterfully adapted Carlo Collodi’s Le avventure di Pinocchio into a captivating hybrid of ballet and theatre worth of a standing ovation when Pinocchio becomes a real boy with an impeccable series of turning leaps. If on a Christmas night Carried away by the holiday spirit, we attended an immersive theatre experience with DopoLavoro Teatrale (DLT), one of Toronto’s leading immersive theatre companies. We let this group of talented actors guide us into a darkened hall where we watched an old 8mm film of an Italian-Canadian family opening presents on Christmas morning. When the film ended, the cast emerged and the hall was transformed before our eyes into a family home were a series of adventurous and comical situations were presented. As it was an immersive theatre experience, we were member of the audience but also part of the performance and were invited to gather meet each other and interact with the performers building a new community. Leonardo's last supper Once again, the holiday spirit did the trick when we partnered with DopoLavoro Teatrale (DLT) to make sure that our students will not miss another immersive theatre experience. This time it was half theatre and half immersive dining experience performed right around Easter and in commemoration of the 500th anniversary of Leonardo Da Vinci's death. The show intertwined a modern story with anecdotes about Leonardo’s life. It was designed exactly for twelve guests who were invited to take part in this dramatized art lesson and role playing game. This fascinating and immaginative experience culminated in an immersive dinner with the performers making us feel all part of this Italian symposium.
